The analogy the blogger uses of the prodigal son is incorrect. The prodigal son asks for the money which was his inheritance, this was NOT money he had given his father the previous year. The money that is returned to the states is money given to the federal government in the first place. Any member state is asking for that money to be returned. If she wants to use the father/son analogy, let's do it correctly:

Throughout the son's life, along with 49 of his brothers, they give their father a portion of their earnings to be distributed among the entire family to care for the less fortunate. Unfortunately, their father becomes very careless in handling this trust especially with regards to the promises he has made, not only to family members, but to servants who have not even contributed. The son and some of the brothers see the hand writing on the wall and fear that their own wife and kids are going to suffer as a result of their father's carelessness and lack of oversight. They also see that through of years of giving hand outs to family members that either were unable to work or were refusing to, that it wouldn't be long before he came to them to ask for more of their earnings as he had done in the past. It was at this time that the son and several of his brothers went to their father and said, "We would like all but a small portion of our earnings we have given you returned to us so we can do as we see fit for our own families. We understand we will be directly responsible for our own families, but this gives an incentive to be better stewards." With that, the father agreed!

Since then, not all, but many of the other brothers, after seeing the successes their brothers were having in caring for their families, came to the father with the same request. At first, some were were more successful than others, but quickly adapted proven systems, making small adjustments to fit their own family's needs.

Too bad there arent some kind of trade school programs to help the parents of these kids. The real goal should be to get the parents to earn enough so that no one needs govt. funds to be insured. It seems like everything in this country is done backwards.
