May enrollment was up again, thanks to all of you and the increased awareness of CHIP and children’s Medicaid. In Tarrant County, enrollment in children’s Medicaid was up 2.1% and enrollment in CHIP was up 1.2% in May compared to April. That means nearly 3,000 additional children had insurance in May. Total enrollment in CHIP/children’s Medicaid in May is160,649. Compared to one year ago, enrollment in both CHIP/children’s Medicaid is up 16.7% in Tarrant County. That compares to 14.9% statewide, so I know we’re making a difference!

Kindergarten round-ups during the spring proved to be a wonderful opportunity to talk to parents about enrolling their uninsured children in CHIP and Medicaid. Members of all three health plans and Your Texas Benefits staffed about 40 kindergarten round-ups in Fort Worth ISD during March and April. That resulted in applications filed to enroll 500 children in CHIP and Medicaid. Big thanks to Dale Edmiaston at Fort Worth ISD who made this happen for all of these children!
